Most automation companies in India, back in 2017, were focused on one thing: selling. Sell the door, sell the gate, sell the leveler, move to the next client. What happened after the sale — service, spare parts, someone actually picking up the phone when a shutter jammed at 2 AM — was almost an afterthought. SmartTec started because that gap was too big to ignore.
How We Started
We didn’t begin as a manufacturer. SmartTec’s first years were spent as a system installer, handling installation and service support for gate automation, rolling shutters, high-speed doors, and Dock Levelers made by other companies.
That work put us directly on factory floors and inside warehouses across Gujarat, and it taught us things a sales brochure never would — which products actually held up under daily industrial use, and which ones looked fine in a catalog but fell apart within a year.
Why We Moved to In-House Manufacturing
It became clear by 2019 that there was a problem with third-party fabricators not having the necessary capabilities to deliver on the design, even though SmartTec would approve of it. So we brought manufacturing in-house. Design, fabrication, testing, installation, and service — all under one roof now, which means:
- No handoffs between separate vendors for design versus production
- Consistent quality control across every unit that ships
- Faster fixes, since the people who built the product are the same people servicing it
Growing Into a Pan-India Company
We stayed local for a while, working project to project within our existing client base. Word of mouth did most of the work from there. By 2022, that steady growth had turned SmartTec into a pan-India operation, with installations now running across North, South, East, and West India.
Service Is Still the Core of What We Do
Even as we’ve scaled, the reason clients pick SmartTec hasn’t changed. Our service team runs 24×7, and in most cases, a service engineer reaches site within 48 hours of a call.
We also handle service and repair work for other automation brands whose own support has fallen behind — quite a few of our long-term clients found us that way, after getting stuck without support from a previous supplier.
Our in-house technicians cover mechanical repairs, control panel issues, motor faults, and general troubleshooting. Nothing gets outsourced to a third party who might take days to show up.
Where We're Headed
We manufacture to the same design standards used globally, adapted for Indian industrial conditions — because a product built for a mild European warehouse doesn’t always survive a Gujarat summer or a 24-hour cold storage cycle.
Looking ahead, SmartTec is working toward exporting to international markets, aiming to show that Indian-made automation equipment can hold its own against any global competitor.
If there’s one thing almost a decade in this industry has taught us, it’s that trust gets built slowly, through consistent service, not through a single sale. That’s still the standard we hold ourselves to.
